Like dogs there is an overpopulation problem with guinea pigs. If you want to breed then make sure you are improving the line, breed atracive pure breed guinea pigs, not hair everywhere “dunno what it is” guinea pigs.

Also like dogs Guinea Pigs come into heat, this occurs every month or so. So to make sure that your guinea pig is really pregnant make sure they stay together for a few months.

To see if your pig is pregnant gently feel around it’s belly and if it is feeling bigger or you can feel a few large lumps then she is probably pregnant.

Another way it to simply look you can see a huge difference when a guinea pig pregnant. Also weigh your guinea pig before and after she could be pregnant.

Remember you need homes for these pigs, it is hard to find a pet shop that doesn’t already have a problem of too many guinea pigs.

If she isn’t pregnant yet then you can still change your mind. Just keep her away from the male.

You have not mentioned the age of her, really you should have done some research, sows should not get pregnant until at least 4-5 months old or if they are over 1yr old as their pelvic bone will have fused if she has never had a litter, the outcome of these to factors is possible death during labour or the need of a caesarrean.
Okay the answer to your question, Guinea pigs come into season every 17 days there are no signs of her being in season.
Guinea pig pregnancy lasts approx 10 wks give or take a few days, so you may need to calculate from the time the sow and the boar where first housed together although this will only give a rough due date.
You can usually feel any movement at around 5- 6 wks into pregnancy, pick her up GENTLY and place her on a cushion on your lap, place both hands each side of her tummy and you should feel a bubbling sensation when the babies first begin to move, there is usually about 4 wks of pregnancy left at this stage. When you do feel movement try not to handle her after this as it can cause damage to the unborn babies.
Up her vitamin c intake and ensure she has plenty bedding.
Guinea pigs usually handle birth perfectly well alone and the first litter is usually small producing just 2-4 babies it can all be over with within 3/4 of a hour. Although if she is very young or old then you really should be there incase anything does go wrong and i would contact a vet before she goes into labour so he can be on hand.
Make sure the boar is removed before she gives birth as he will mate with her again straight after birth and this will put stress on your female and no good for her health.
Any male babies need to be seperated from their mother and other sows at 3 wk old, so you will need a spare cages for the baby boars and for the father.
It is not as easy as it sounds and breeding should be left to those who are experienced and done all the research.
Their are alot of risks such the dangers of breeding roan guinea pigs. I hope you realise the expense and worry you are getting yourself into.

Ok, my guinea pig just had babies this morning. She had 3. We got her from the pet store and figured out she was pregnant like 3 weeks ago. Guinea pigs are pregnant for 59-72 days. I couldn’t really tell you how to breed them, but I know about pregnant piggys. Do you have the male or are you just breeding her from someone else’s? If he lives with you I would keep them in the same cage until you see her getting fat. That way you know she’s pregnant. You don’t really have to do much. She got so fat and the day before she had them, she was laying around and not getting up much. When it gets close to time you need to put the food and water as close to the nesting box as possible. She didn’t want to come out of the box at all, she would just stick her head out to eat and drink. After a little while you will be able to feel them moving a LOT! Guinea pig babies are born with fur and their eyes open. Mine were born this morning and are already eating timothy hay! They are very strong and big. They are bigger than a hamster. You can hold the babies right away. They are so adorable! Don’t worry, when I found out mine was pregnant I was so worried and didn’t know what to do. It’s easy, just remember that it’s not heathy for them to be pregnant all the time. While mine was pregnant, we held her all the time you just have to be careful when she gets really fat. I heard apples prevent toxemia, so we fed mine apples every day. That’s about all I know. Hope this helps! Good luck!

EDIT:
One more thing, if she is older than 5-8 months, then you REALLY shouldn’t breed her. If they are oldr than that, then their pelvis will be fused together and she will die during birth. Also I read that there is a 20% chance of the mother living during birth.

Forgot something else. Guinea pigs can get pregnant at 3 weeks old. You have to seperate the males at 3 weeks.
