how do I care for pregnant guppies and how long before the fry come?
sillybilly asked:
I just added 2 female guppies to three males (I know I need to get at least one more female). I noticed they have dark round spots on their bellies so I am assuming they are pregnant. How long before they fry come? I guess I dont have any idea how long they have been pregnant so how do I know when its close to the end? Do their bellies get big? Anything special I need to do to care for the mommies?

well as long as you have alot of foliage and grass in the tank they should be fine all you gotta do is feed them and clean the tank……

yes you should keep greenery in the tank and just feed them as you always do. but as soon as the babies are born, catch them with a net and put them in a separate tank because the parents and any other bigger fish in the tank will eat them. and they have baby fish food at any pet store that you can buy to feed them.

Well a normal female guppy will be pregnnat for 1 month if you have tons of hiding spaces if you don’t by a breeding net/trap at petsmart or petco

1- depending on where you got them, they may already be pregnant and fry could come in days, or Weeks. depends. if she got pregnant from your males, 5 weeks tops, usually around a month.
2-look at my answer 4 #1
3-yes there bellies get big!!
4-well, nothing much 4 the moms other than provide lots of hiding spots for them to get away from the males if they need to. Also, to increase the chance that more fry will survive, add java moss to the tank. It is to dense for the mom to get into, but the babies can hide in there until they are big enough that they won’t get eaten.=)
Good luck, also. Female guppies can hold sperm from 1 mating session for up to 8 births, so be prepared for lots of fry, and feed them either liquid fry food, powder fry food, or crushed up flake food..
