How long after birth can you get pregnant?
♥Gillian.. asked:
I’m not planning on getting pregnant again anytime soon, just curious.

I’ve heard you can get pregnant straight away. But can you still get pregnant if your periods havn’t come back yet? And if you can, how would you know you were pregnant.

You can get pregnant as soon as you have sex, but would you want to after you just gave birth? A woman i know of keeps firing them out one after the other, i think she’s on baby No. 14 and she’s in her mid thirties : )

You can get pregnant as soon as the last ones out basically. You can begin ovulating straight after. You know you are pregnant because you get symptoms of pregnancy besides not having periods. I got pregnant within a few weeks of giving birth.

right away..some think thats your most fertile time…i have heard alot that you cant get pregnant if you are breastfeeding, but i dont know if i would depend on that “maybe”..anyone else know the answer to this one?

you’re apparently really fertile after giving birth! while i was in hosp a few days after giving birth i kept getting asked about contraception, like i could even consider having sex! although my midwife told me about a lady who had just given birth and then got preg straight away, i wouldn’t be able to cope! you can still get preg even if you have no periods, when i came off the pill i didn’t have aperiod in months and months and caught but unfortunately that pregnancy wasn’t to be but it shows you still can get preg regardless!.

Absolutely you are able to get pregnant right away. I know someone who was pregnant at their 6 week postnatal check up.
Think about how you have felt the last nine month. Are you feeling the same way at all? SOmetimes you may think you are pregnant but you aren’t. Your hormones are all over the place. Easiest way is to take a pregnancy test and see what it says.

Straight away. So if you don’t want to become pregnant right away, use birth control. Even though your periods have not come back you can be ovulating without knowing it. Use protection!

It don’t take long! that is the reason lots of siblings only have 9 months between birthdays. the period just means you just ovulated and DID NOT get pregnant.

Absolutlely you can get pregnant right away. The way the female body works is that we ovulate, then if the egg isn’t fertilized we have a period. So, if you ovulate and happen to have sex during that time you could get pregnant before having a period.
Someone else made a comment about breastfeeding and fertility….breastfeeding exclusively for the first six months, (nothing else goes into baby but your breastmilk), can help prevent pregnancy. However, there are all sorts of rules you have to follow regarding how long you can go between feedings etc. Get in touch with your local La Leche League for more information on that.
As far as knowing if you get pregnant before having a period….some women who are sexually active before having their periods again will take regular pregnancy tests. Otherwise you just have to wait until you notice symptoms of prgnancy.

if you breast feed i don’t think you can get pregnant during this time as your cycle doesn’t start again until you stop feeding.
if not it can be as soon as 3 weeks after birth,
i had a 6 week check, still no period but 8 weeks after birth of my daughter i got pregnant again. (miscarried) i never had a period though i had flu.
i would be careful or go on birth control from your check if not breast feeding
