Is it common for pregnant women to experience pain in the lower abdomen during early pregnancy?

Pregnant
Smithers asked:

My wife is around 7 weeks pregnant (not sure exactly as we havent had the scan yet) and she is experiencing pain the abdomen. She is a little concerned and so am I. Is it common for pregnant women to feel a little pain around that area? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
She has just told me that it is more like a sharp stabbing pain in her actual lady bits (vagina). Is that more of a concern?

  2. I did when i was pregnant and voiced concerns to my OB. My OB said that it was normal but if it got unbearable to come see her.

  3. You shouldn’t be asking that question on here..you should call her doctor immediately…and find out if its something you

  5. I felt some cramping when i was around 6 weeks, before i even knew i was pregnant, and a little bit after that, it’s the uterus gettin adjusted for the next 9 months, unless there is heavy bleeding or any kind of blood clotts, then there shouldn’t be anything to worrie about. It’s common.
    :) Best of luck!

  6. It is very common! I had it starting around 3-4 weeks and I am 9 weeks now and have it as we speak! It’s very uncomfortable and the best way i can describe it is that it feels like someone is poking me really really hard on either side of my pelvis. It is normal and the pain is her ligaments and uterus stretching and growing to accomodate the baby who is also growing like crazy right now (doubling in size every 48 hours!). Tell her not to worry unless it is accompanied by bleeding, and in that event, she should go to the ER. Good luck!

  7. Yes it can happen. Just watch it and if it is more than a dull cramp like with the period always call the doctor to see if they want you to come in.

She sounds fine, just help her relax and rest. Sometimes the first tri-mester women get very tired.

    Congrats.

  8. Completely Normal. Your body is stretching and moving things around internally to make room for the baby.

Call your doctor if you have any questions. Mine is wonderful and incredibly helpful.

It’ll be nerve wracking, every pain and ache you’re always woorried. Just try and relax and let nature do what it does.

    Congrats!

  9. Yes her uterus is stretching all her muscles out to make room for itself. Congrats on your little miracle.

  10. Yes its somewhat normal to feel pain in the abdomen. However….if the pain becomes excruciating, there is any bleeding, cramping or discharge consult you Ob/Gyn. You have to remember that things they are a changing down there. All of internal organs are shifting and stretching to make room for the new addition to the space. My wife just gave birth to our 2nd child 12 wks ago. Her biggest pain came from her tendons stretching. Remember that your ob?gyn is always there to answer your questions>

  12. If its a period type ache then yes, its perfectly normal. She’s got the implantation, stretching of the uterus and all types of wonderful things happening down there.

If it gets to be a sharper pain or there is any red or heavy bleeding then go and see a doctor but try not to worry otherwise.

  15. I had cramping (like mild period pains) till I was 14 weeks pregnant. It is common feeling with pregnancy, however if there is any bleeding, vomiting, or fever, you should get her checked over. This symptoms may be more serious.

    Good luck to you both.
